What Is a Butterfly Valve?
A butterfly valve is a quarter-turn rotary valve that uses a flat, circular disc mounted on a shaft through its diameter as the closure element. When the disc is rotated 90° to be parallel to the flow, the valve is fully open with the disc edge-on to the fluid stream, providing a relatively straight flow path. When rotated back 90° to be perpendicular to the pipe axis, the disc seals against a seat to provide tight shut-off.
Butterfly valves are among the most economical and lightweight valve types for large-diameter piping — they offer significant space, weight, and cost advantages over gate, globe, and ball valves in sizes above DN200 (8"). They are used for both on/off isolation and throttling in water distribution, cooling water systems, HVAC, chemical processing, and high-performance critical services such as steam isolation and fire-safe shut-off.
✅ TANGGONG VALVE GROUP has manufactured industrial butterfly valves since 1990 at our facility in Wenzhou, China — "China's Valve Capital." We hold API 609, CE, TUV, and ISO 9001:2015 certifications. All butterfly valves are factory-tested to API 598 and seat leakage standards before shipment.
